Why Bouduccia feeds the BARF Diet to their pets
BARF stands for Bones And Raw Food, which embraces natural but raw foods, so you know what your pet will be consuming, no hidden fats, colourings or other ingredients. There is a real feel good factor about feeding your pet the right food so as to enhance the quality of their life and all round health. This is a switch of diet that we have not regretted making!
The amount to feed will vary dependent upon your dogs’ body weight, general levels of activity and the age of your pet, and current weight of your pet so it may be a trial and error at the beginning, but there is plenty of information out there.
What we feed our dogs
Chicken carcasses, chicken wings, chicken necks, chicken drumsticks, Ox tail, beef – bones and mince, turkey drumsticks, fish - sardines, tuna, heart, kidney as well as liver and on a regular basis but smaller portions they are fed a variety of vegetables; carrots, beetroot, pineapple, parsnip, sweetcorn, swede, cottage cheese and recently natural yoghurt.
We also put garlic granules in their food to stop ticks and fleas (although we do use other products too) and our females receive Evening Primrose supplements, which has been a real help around season time.
For training treats we use; kidney, liver, cow tongue
This is not intended to be an exhaustive list, however as our knowledge grows so will our dogs diet!
We have noticed
-An improvement in their coat condition
- No smelly breath and their teeth appear cleaner
- There coats do not smell offensive
- They have better energy levels
- There is less 'poop to scoop' which makes me ask the question, are there unnecessary ingredients in kibble?
Things to remember
If you make the switch what period of time do you intend to make the change from kibble to raw foods, this may be dependent upon varying factors; pets age, current health.
DO NOT use COOKED bones!
Regular worming is advised!
Grapes and onions will poison your pet!
All our puppies will be fed this way to give them the best start we can, but we will discuss any dietary concerns with new owners so they can keep their puppy on this diet or switch to kibble, although we will be recommending the BARF diet.
For your convenience I have added BARF diet books to my shop, alternatively the internet has a wealth of information.
