Hagrid, we hope, will prove to be an impressive stud dog. Hagrid will be health tested in March 2011 and appraised by the summer of 2011. Although young he is a lovable character, and we hope his training will only enhance his great nature.

As responsible breeders we are taking an extra step because Hagrid will never be covered with another bitch but, instead collections will be made by the appropriate clinic and only then will his semen be used on the appropriate health tested / temperament assessed bitch.

We have taken this step to minimise the transmission of any transmitted diseases including Brucellosis, a test, which is normally undertaken prior to breeding.

Brucellosis

This disease can be transmitted to other dogs during breeding, contact with aborted foetuses or discharge from the uterus of an infected bitch. Consequently the bacteria can spread to the scrotum and cause sterility due to the atrophy that occurs; it can also go on to infect the spinal area, kidney and eyes. Also known as a ‘zoonotic disease’ means in rare cases it can be spread to humans.
